Partners in Health

Shaan Trotter

Director of Equity

Minority Health Administrative Director, Cancer Control Lurie Cancer Center at Northwestern Medicine

Our Gospel Run partnership has yielded strong results for our health promotion. We identified new target audiences for cancer education, and we bolstered outreach by over 300 prostate screens, 600 colon cancer FIT screens, and 250 mammography referrals in just the first year.

Using evidence-based practices, data, and community assets, Gospel Run has developed strategies that truly disrupt health disparities in medically underserved communities.

Faith Nyong

Community Nurse – Amita Health

We got involved with the Gospel Run over 4 years ago, and the impact is what brings us back every year. As a Nurse with a predominantly African-American patient population, I was intrigued by a 5K that promotes health and wellness in our community. We pull them in as a part of this movement. Gospel Run is about leaving a legacy of health and wellness across generations. Realizing we don’t have to have high cholesterol, heart disease, and high blood pressure. Thank you, Gospel Run!

Brian Richardson

Deputy Commissioner of the City of Chicago Department of Health

Your event was a kickstarter for our office – we now have a running group that has participated in at least three other runs and includes a few staff members who were not walking/running previously.

Santrice Martin

Director of Multicultural Initiatives American Heart Association

The Gospel Run is a “catch you by surprise” event. You have an expectation of what a 5K event is like; then you arrive to Gospel Run and it exceeds your expectations in atmosphere, enthusiasm, engagement, and excitement! It is one of the best integrations of health and faith based initiatives, while at the same time, producing positive health outcomes.

Faith-Based Partners

Rev. Dr. Otis Moss III

Sr Pastor – Trinity UCC

Gospel Run is the nation’s premier health, spirituality, and social justice platform.

No other organization allows a congregation to engage the spiritual power of health, medical disparities, and the precious joy of experiencing fellowship with the wider village.

Rev. Julian Spencer

Sr Pastor–Main Baptist Church

I believe if Pastors lead in health and wellness, our community will follow our lead.

Gospel Run is now a part of the culture, and all our other health programming is stronger because of it.  Our team is almost 300 people strong, and we’re working hard to get them ready for Gospel Run!

Rev. Vicky Curtiss

Associate Pastor for Mission – Fourth Presbyterian Church

Our vision is to live the beloved community described by Dr. King.  The Gospel Run is a gift of fellowship and community.  It has allowed us to be a part of our larger metro area, and it has deepened friendships among participants who are racially diverse.  It celebrates who we all are.

My life has changed tremendously thanks to Gospel Run.  For me, it has become its own season.  It’s all I think about leading up to race day.

Since the Gospel Run, I’ve been inspired to do more 5ks, but none will ever match the love I have for Gospel Run!

Patricia French

Team Co-Lead – Word of Life Church

I get teary-eyed every time I remember the moment I crossed the finish line.  It was an accomplishment physically, but also spiritually.

I was 392 pounds at my heaviest, and now I am the Co-Captain of a Gospel Run Team.  If I can do it, you can too!  Gospel Run has impacted my life forever.

Cynthia Dyce

Team Leader – Stepping in Unity Citywide team – Aurora, IL

Because of my injuries, I can no longer run.  [The Gospel Run platform] has allowed me to honor my vision to build a team of leaders that would influence those in their churches, communities, families, and friends to live healthier lives.  I’m excited to see our team members who now want to influence others to do the same.

5K Walk

My participation in Gospel Run was truly life transforming.  It was much more than a race for me.  It was an opportunity to conquer my fears.  Completing the Gospel Run showed me there truly is nothing I cannot do. That I truly can do all things!

5K Walk

Since Gospel Run, I’ve lost 28 pounds.  My goal is to lose 80.  My husband and I have gone off all blood pressure meds.  My goal next year is to run the whole thing.

10K Finisher

The impact of fellowship at the Gospel Run is indescribable.  You really have to be there to feel the warmth around you.

5K Finisher

Before, when I weighed 322 pounds, just climbing a flight of stairs was a challenge.  Today I wake up in the morning with the desire to move my body and get out and walk.  I’ve never been this active in my life.  Gospel Run has impacted my life tremendously…
